my backstory
The engineer obsessed with SAT.
I studied Chemical Engineering at UC Santa Barbara, then spent 5 years as a software engineer before becoming a full-time SAT tutor in 2023. I now have over 3 years of experience working exclusively as an SAT prep teacher. I have completed every exam administered over this time period, and I have worked through and explained thousands of SAT questions to students from all over the world.

I've seen students doing well in advanced math and English courses score below average on the SAT. I've seen students struggling to speak English score in the 1500s. How is that possible? The truth is, the SAT is not a normal math or English test, but rather a tricky game that punishes students who overthink and spend too much time trying to find that perfect answer.

Start with a full-effort diagnostic exam.
Start by scheduling a consultation. You will receive email instructions for the student to complete a full SAT diagnostic exam before the consultation date.
I use that exam to evaluate strengths, weaknesses, pacing, and any gaps in their foundational subject knowledge. During the consultation, I speak with you to understand score goals, timeline, and other relevant factors to finalize the study plan.
Build up the foundational subjects.
If the diagnostic shows gaps in core math or English concepts, early sessions focus on learning the parts of those subjects that matter for the SAT and how to apply them on the exam. Homework centers on targeted practice from the concepts covered in class.
This part of the course focuses purely on learning the core subjects like Geometry, Algebra, Statistics, Grammar, and Reading Comprehension.
Shift into SAT-specific strategies.
The student will complete full exams on the integrated practice platform, which records answers, highlights, crossouts, scratch work, and time spent on every question.
I review their results before the next session and show them where they can improve, why certain questions tricked them, and how to approach similar problems more efficiently. Homework may be another full test, a single English or Math section, or targeted practice based on what still needs work.
Check-in and adjust the plan over time.
The program adapts to each student's progression speed, planned exam date, study frequency, and any unforeseen circumstances that come up along the way.
SAT prep is a lot of work, in addition to the student's regular schoolwork and extracurriculars, so I make it a point to stay flexible and understanding of each student's unique situation while staying true to their goals.

How are payments collected?
Payments can be delivered over Zelle, PayPal, or Stripe credit card payments (additional fee). Payments are collected after each session, or you can do bulk payments in advance for a 10% discount. If any of these terms are an issue, please let me know and I will find a solution.
